Aragon invests 100 million euros in DAT Alierta
A giant leap for innovation in Zaragoza
The Government of Aragon has announced a €100 million investment for the creation of the DAT Alierta Technology Park in Zaragoza, a project that President Jorge Azcón describes as “the most important and interesting technological project to be developed in our country”. This initiative represents a crucial step toward consolidating Aragon as a benchmark for innovation at European level.
Strategically located next to the Río Ebro Campus with a surface area of 79 hectares, DAT Alierta will not only integrate existing facilities of the University, the ITA (Aragon Institute of Technology), and the CEEI (European Business and Innovation Centre), but will also add new, state-of-the-art construction. Its fundamental purpose is to attract high-profile companies, generate quality employment, and, above all, foster vital synergies between the technology business sector, academia, and public administration.
The park’s name pays tribute to César Alierta, and symbolises a space that, like its namesake, will stand out for its innovative spirit, its capacity for understanding and its power of technological transformation. Vice President Mar Vaquero emphasised that this project encapsulates the Aragonese values of institutional collaboration, a key factor that has allowed the region to attract global investment and maintain the commitment of its local businesses.
DAT Alierta will not operate in isolation. It will join Walqa and Technopark, already established in Huesca and Alcañiz respectively, to form the Aragonese Technology District. This integrated network seeks to ensure that the Aragonese technology ecosystem benefits all three provinces equally, fostering innovation, investment, and specialist employment.
The construction of DAT Alierta will take place in several ambitious phases:
- End of 2025: Approval of the DIGA and beginning of the drafting of the PIGA, following completion of the Master Plan in February and the bidding process for the first projects in March.
- September 2026: First building works due to begin.
- December 2026: Approval of PIGA.
- May 2027: Start of urbanisation and construction of the main headquarters.
- Second half of 2028: Completion of works on the first buildings.
- First half of 2029 and rest of year: Completion of works included in the PIGA and execution of remaining works.
With this significant investment and long-term vision, Aragon is positioning itself as a key player on the European technology scene, and fostering a future of growth and opportunities for talent and businesses.
