CIRCE, Aragon’s emblem of research, set to become a driving force for DAT Alierta with a new €20 million headquarters

The technology centre will double its facilities and workforce in a cutting-edge building, set to be a benchmark in sustainability and innovation, ready by the end of 2028.

The Aragon Digital Technology District (DAT) Alierta was born from the vision of turning Zaragoza and Aragon into an international benchmark for research and innovation. Today, that vision takes a giant leap forward and materializes in one of our most exciting projects: the construction of the new main headquarters for CIRCE (Technology Centre) in our district.

With a public investment of 20 million euros from the Government of Aragon, this new building is not just another piece of infrastructure; it will be the most important research facility in the Region and, in the words of President Jorge Azcón, «one of the engines» and «the emblem of business research» for DAT Alierta.

The arrival of CIRCE, scheduled for the end of 2028, solidifies our ecosystem as a top-tier hub for attracting talent and technological development.

A building that is a laboratory in itself

CIRCE’s new headquarters will be a benchmark for what DAT Alierta represents. It will be located on an extensive 6.5-hectare plot in the north of the district (between Ronda de Boltaña and Las Majas de Goya streets) and will allow CIRCE to unify its current sites and, most importantly, double its size and its number of employees.

The design is a statement of intent:

  • Main Structure: It will feature a central office building flanked by two large-scale industrial and electrical laboratories, equipped to handle projects involving vehicles as large as buses.
  • Future-Proof: The modular design will allow for future expansions to accommodate the centre’s continued growth.
  • A Technology «Showcase»: As Andrés Llombart, CEO of CIRCE, pointed out, the building will not only be the «right container» for its content but will also allow them to «demonstrate their own technologies.»

Sustainability and Technology as Pillars

In perfect alignment with the values of DAT Alierta, the CIRCE headquarters will be an example of applied sustainability:

  • Energy: It will incorporate photovoltaic self-consumption on roofs and facades, energy storage systems, and high-efficiency climate control (geothermal, aerothermal, and heat recovery).
  • Intelligence: The building will be intelligently managed using IoT sensors and Artificial Intelligence.
  • Sustainable Mobility: It will feature charging points for electric vehicles, bicycle parking, and direct connections to tram and bus lines.

A magnet for global talent

Investing in CIRCE is an investment in talent. This technology centre, which has seen spectacular growth (over 300 professionals, 20 million in annual revenue), is already the second-leading Spanish technology centre in Horizon Europe innovation projects and employs staff from 17 different nationalities.

This is exactly what we aim for at DAT Alierta: to create a hub that attracts talent from all over Europe, where research and business collaborate closely.

The confirmation of CIRCE joins the expansion of ITA and the arrival of Siemens’ offices. As President Azcón noted, this is the beginning of a «cascade» of companies that will see our district as the ideal place to grow.

We warmly welcome CIRCE. Their new home will be a technological engine that will power the entire ecosystem.
