SIEMENS PLEDGES ITS COMMITMENT TO DAT ALIERTA
New major technology headquarters to be built in Zaragoza
The Aragonese Technology District (DAT Alierta) is to have a prestigious new tenant. Siemens Spain has confirmed its commitment to Aragon and will move its current Zaragoza offices to the main building of this innovative technology campus in the Actur district of the city. This move not only strengthens the company’s century-long presence in the region, but also positions it as the first multinational to announce its installation in this promising innovation hub.
With a 100-year history of contributing to the economic and industrial transformation of Aragon, Siemens Spain is now seeking to give a new boost to its activity, especially in the application of technology to key sectors such as data centres. Aragon has become a benchmark in this field, with major investments from giants such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, Blackstone, Box2Bit, Grupo Azora and Grupo Samca, which have so far boosted investment in the community’s technology sector to 37,000,000,000 euros.
Growth and confidence in the Aragonese ecosystem
The Siemens office in Zaragoza already has 30 professionals, a number that has doubled in just two years. This team will now move to DAT Alierta, occupying a space reserved for businesses in the main building, which is currently under development.
Fernando Silva, CEO of Siemens Spain, did not hide his enthusiasm: “The move of our headquarters reflects our confidence in this [the DAT Alierta] project, which aims to become a national reference.” Silva expressed his conviction that the presence of Siemens will have a tractor effect, which will attract more companies and strengthen Aragon’s technological ecosystem. “The more companies, the better”, he emphasised.
This decision is part of Siemens Spain’s strategy to strengthen its regional offices, which was launched four years ago with a new management committee. Proximity to local partners and the companies where its solutions are implemented is essential for the firm, which is intrinsically “technological” and needs “local partners”. Another example of this strategy is the recent relocation of its Barcelona office to the Diagonal One Tower.
Data centres, a strategic focus for Siemens in Aragon
Fernando Silva pointed out that “Now is the time for data centres, and our technology can make them more efficient”. He defined these centres as the “logistics of data” and stressed that “investment in data centres means investing in infrastructure that drives the digital economy and data”.
However, data centres will not be Siemens’ only focus in Aragon. The company will continue to drive industry and the economic fabric, taking advantage of the region’s uniqueness in having “well-developed” industry, energy and digital economy, sectors which, according to Silva, “go together”.
Aragon is also a leading reference for renewable energy, the electrical transition in the automotive industry, water management, and the paper industry. Siemens has already developed significant projects in the region, such as the Aragon-Catalonia Canal initiative to reduce water consumption by 15%, or smart solutions with the transport company Avanza. Siemens’ main objective is to achieve environmental, social and economic sustainability, and it will seek to promote this vision by collaborating with universities to generate an ecosystem and attract and retain talent.
Cutting-edge solutions for data centres and sustained growth
Siemens Spain has a portfolio of integrated solutions for data centres, with a strong focus on sustainability, security, fire protection, and 24/7 performance. Its DCIM (Data Centre Infrastructure Management) solution, for example, combines plant management with IT management, optimising performance and facilitating efficient decision-making. Examples of its success include the implementation of this solution in Europe’s most modern data centre in Poland and in a green data centre in Germany. Siemens’ latest financial data reflect solid growth, with profits of 2,400 million euros (as of 31st March, 2025), an 11% increase compared to the previous year, driven by the profitability of the industrial business. Orders also increased by 9% in this period, to 21,600 million euros, with smart infrastructure reaching 6,000 million euros.
